How many courses, how many states?

Post by Marco Iannello »

How many courses have you played?

And how many states have you played in?

I'll start:

37 courses spanning 10 states (and counting)

I know my numbers will be miniscule compared to some others... let's hear it.

I have, but do not have them tallied. Someday I may set up an account at dgcoursereview.com and make that cool map. I love the site but haven't found the time to go through all of my courses. I am sure that I have a head start on you Marco since I started playing the game in 1989. I have never been to a state that I did not play disc golf in.

40 Courses in 14 States.

MA, CT, VT, NH, ME, MD, SC, NC, TN, FL, GA, NV, CA, VA

Mostly while driving back and forth from Clemson. Would stop if we had information on where a course was with a few discs, I wasn't too serious about the game back then, but did get to see various courses. Also sought on some courses while on college visits, most of the time, the location is close to a college, mainly while I was visiting friends.

Cool thread, Marco. This time next month, I'll have 10 states and England. Like a lot of us, I always find a nearby course when I travel.
Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that disc getting bigger?". Then it hits me.

Forgive me Marco...

...but I have to ask your definition of a course. Shoot me now for being a spoil-sport or worse  , I know.

Scenario 1
A course has 27 holes - usually an 18 and a separate 9.
2 courses or (if all are played) 1?

Scenario 2
A course has 3 distinct 9s (totaling 27 holes). It is common convention to only play 2 of the 3 nines for "your 18"...but there's no preferred 18.
If you played 2 of the 3, do you consider this 2 x 9-hole courses or 1 course?
If you played A + B and then played A + C, would you consider this 2 course?

Scenario 3
Warwick has 2 tees and 2 baskets per "hole". And convention is to only play s-s, s-b, b-s, or b-b (not mix holes up). You play all 4 layouts.
Is this "playing Warwick" (1 course) or 4 courses?

Scenario 4
Etc (I'm just too lazy to write here all the other "potential goofies" here

Just wonderin'

Wow Karl...that's deep

As for me (and for my purposes, a course is 18 holes of any given layout within a parcel of land on which the overall course is set), I've played in the following states:
MA- still have yet to play Crane Hill, Hylands of Conway, Hyland Orchards and Holyoke CC and some of the newer start up courses like Coggshall
CT
VT
NH
ME
NY
NJ
PA- Tyler State Park...bomb!
VA
Favorite course outside of nefaland is Walnut Creek Park in Charlottesville, VA. Pristine, beautiful landscapes reminiscient of Buffumville, complete signage, incredibly clean and great flow/variety. Kiwanis DGC in Stanton VA was also sweet with 2 baskets/ 2 tees on each hole.

I think my next dg road trip will haveto involve some highlight courses in North Carolina, with a stopover at the Grange in Spotsy, VA on the way there or back...or both :D

J-Park has 28 different holes
There are two different 18 hole layouts and a full 27 hole layout
My opinion is that it's one course, Joralemon Park DGC.

Warwick & Borderland have two tees and two baskets for all 18, essentially making a multitude of combinations of 18.
I still think they're considered one course.

Wolfe Woods @ Warwick is the exception, with it having a completely separate 18 baskets.

Karl, there ya go getting all technical again

I say whatever floats your boat.. I, for example, counted maple hill one course in my 34, but i guess you could count it as 4 courses. I also counted enman field, woodland valley, and sugarbush as one, but now that I think about it, all have two separate courses.

I originally was thinking "locations" (whether they have 9, 18, 27, 36 holes, etc.)

Stroika, when I first started playing in 2003, your name was one of the first I remembered, along with someone named Southwick or something ... I know you've been around the disc golf block once or twice

Looks like Kyle is the front runner in nefa-land in terms of most states. Who's got more?
