Going to Buff tomorrow for the first time since all the changes. Can anyone tell me if the directions of the layout from the September 2010 post is accurate enough for me use?????

I was wondering how managable the course is for me to play, since I haven't been there since it was redesigned. Well, I was there once in the middle of the redesign and couldn't find my way around.

There are flypads and tee signs on all holes. All baskets are numberd properly. As far as next tee signs I think they are all there.

I'll be out on the course Thursday to do a trash round. I will take note of next tee signs and get them up were needed asap. There will be a map of the layout posted up on the kiosk soon as well.

I love the new layout, and I think the signs are fantastic. The new painted tee for hole three up on the dam is a brilliant move too, IMO.

My only beef with Buff is that there are once again exactly 27 holes, but that there are not 27 distinctly numbered tee boxes/baskets.

The old layout has exactly nine leftovers. I would personally love to see those renumbered 19-27 someday.

In the past when I've asked people about it, this is the reply I tend to get: "Lots of people play the mini-12." Well what does that mean? They're not numbered 1 - 12 either, so what's your point? I just don't understand that.

I think this "mini-12" logic just shocks my brain, ... seems to make so much less sense than a 1-27 numbering, so much more confusing to have more than one hole six etc. Just my opinion.

Buff is great now though, the new 18 hole layout rules.

I am going to come on here and admit that I haven't been to Buff since it changed. This used to be my home course. One of the main reasons is that it just sounds too confusing.

Welp, maybe I'm not a grownup yet, but I play hole one from the closer teebox and use the one with the hole one sign for old hole three. I'm not counting new hole two either, at all.

I can see why you loved the old course Mrs Stroika. There were plenty of blind hyzers, 300ft and under.

This course has a mix of long and short, I dont think you would like it all Matt.

The course is labeled quite well and I believe that the mini 12 situation is taken care of. Stidham placed 1a and 1b on the correct baskets etc.

Either way, its a great free course and Matt S throws 220ft with a sidewinder.

Thanks for the confirmation Joe. I didn't think I would like it. Maybe a mini-skirt 12 with Bobby and Cheef?

The course is labeled great, and I repeat this not as a complaint, but as an observation ... am I really the only one that sees the absolute logic in giving each hole its own unique number? Old holes 6 thru 13 and old hole 3 make up exactly nine more holes. Some obsessive compulsive part of me has a tough time with this I think!

Theyhave their own unique numbers. 1a and 1b.

You aren't alone, it would make it less confusing if they were all uniquely identified with numbers like you mention. And if it followed your logic with marking the 18 hole layout 1 - 18, and then the remaining 9 19 - 27, this could be played in order. People can play any number of holes they want in any order (even 12 for the "Mini 12" lovers out there), but when someone says "I aced hole 21", it will be obvious which hole they mean instead of "I aced the third hole on the mini 12 of the old layout, you know, hole 6azbd". Kidding aside, I really don't think either way is confusing, and it doesn't matter at all as long as I have a disc in my hand and a basket to throw at.

I shall continue to pretend they're numbered 1-27.

Right on I think going 1to 29 would make sense or easier to identify and like you said can still.play 9 or 12 whicheva

Someone numbered the posts of the mini 12 with stickers. Now old hole five is new hole two but hole three of the mini 12. Do I have this right? Lol.

Numbering the spare holes 19-27 makes so much sense. Although there isn't a great way to play all 27 with a smooth continuous flow of play. Best way I can figure is to walk all the way over to "old hole 6"/"mini 12 hole 4"/"imaginarily numbered 19" to begin.

OH! I almost forgot to say I love the new painted teeboxes on 3 & 15. Both are huge improvements. I'm a failure at new 15 so far though!

Tim, you're on Team Buff, we ask you for guidance. Isn't 15 the one where you throw over the chainlink fence then over the spillway to the basket by the stairs? Did this one change again recently?

Yes, there's a new teebox, a painted one like new #3. There's a chain link fence that runs between the pro tee box and the old regular one (that used to serve both 19 & 27 back when). The new tee box is painted on the asphalt just behind that fence, making it a much more interesting & challenging hole. I'd been using that short tee box, but now that can be drop zone maybe.

3's tee box is now on the dam and the new painted tee box on 15 is the new drop zone/short tee. The old cement short tee on that hole is no longer in play. By spring we should have some new scorecards and a map of the course on the kiosk near hole 1.
