HCC Tee Pads

Post by Jay Ducharme »

Gradually, the plan to put "real" tee pads in at HCC is moving along. The original plan was to make concrete pads, but that idea has been scrapped because of expense. Instead, our athletic director is planning on FlyPads with a base of traprock dust. There's a possibility that the entire back 9 could be completed in time for the August 20th tourney.

Just saw this post Jay, very cool thought at HCC, especially on the back. Nice though how you wouldn't need 18 pads to do the entire course due to many walkway tees. Most courses could benefit from a tee pad facelift, but HCC back 9 REALLY could use it (the tee on 12 always makes me chuckle, like crane hill 9 with the rock maze, and little extra footing on 15 wouldn't hurt). Is there an update on progress? It would be great to have even some of this work done by summer winds, and I can imagine you must be really gunning for as much as possible by the tournament. Good luck with this project!

Well, Eric, tee 12 is a priority and might even be done for the tourney. But there have been a few changes. Kelly Conroy and I have been toying with a complete re-design of the entire course. The reason is that we'll be losing hole 9 next year, and hole 10 a few years later. Plus, the criss-crossing of holes 4, 6, 7 and 8 are problematic (and was caused by an 11th-hour re-design due to a parking lot going in). So right now the tee pads planned for the tourney are 1, 3, 11, 12 and 13. Those holes (as well as 2) will remain in the current re-design. But everything else will change. The re-design won't actually happen at least for another year. But I'll begin putting tee markers and stakes out so that players can try out the new configuration and give us some feedback.
