Vibram Five Fingers
I have been considering a pair of Vibram Five Fingers minimalist shoes for disc golf. I'm wondering what golfers if any in NEFAland are using this unique footwear, and hoping to get some reviews on which style VFF shoe holds up in a durability respect to disc golf.

Re: Vibram Five Fingers
Do you own any VFFs now, Ben? I love my KSO's more than anything, but after this past weekend I can definitely say do NOT play multiple rounds in that model. I've played a few single rounds in them in the past without incident, but I did a pyramids/maple hill trip this weekend and by the end of maple hill my feet were KILLING me. On the inside of the foot there is a point where the rubber comes up and around to protect the widest part of your foot, and something in there aggravated both of my feet and I developed a sweet set of matching blisters on each foot. My guess to the cause is that the VFFs just aren't made for that type of rotation, and since the fabric is hugging your foot so close, it twists/bunches/rubs when you keep planting and spinning - even with trying to make 1,000% sure I was spinning on my heel and not my midfoot or ball of my foot.
I think if you're going to have any luck, they'd have to be the treksports or the komodos. But that's just a guess on my part.
Good luck in any case!

Re: Vibram Five Fingers
I have six different pairs and the komodos are my absolute favorite...by a landslide! They are extremely comfortable, have a super durable sole and were designed with much better toe seams that seriously reduce the friction. I've worn mine for four full consecutive days at a fitness conference, which was constant body movement; I had no issues with any discomfort, but I also took the time to break my feet and leg muscles into the idea. I can't say you'll be as satisfied as me because everyone is different. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice so far.... I been looking at the Komodo Sports style, as it has a rotational pattern to the tread which seems great for pivoting. From what I've heard, it takes a couple days to get your legs use to the idea. I plan on wearing them to work since I am a personal trainer it should work out well

Re: Vibram Five Fingers
I wore those KSO's for pretty much a straight 72 hours over the ACT weekend didn't have any problems - but that one day of golfing all day was obviously a different story. My legs and feet are definitely used to them by now. Sure my feet ached after 3 full days in them but it was that "good" ache.
And Wendy, I'm not surprised to see you replying here after our convo a few weekends ago lol. Komodos are really that much more comfortable than your other pairs, eh? I've been meaning to hit REI to give the treksports/bikilas/komodos a try on, I may have to look into that sooner rather than later

Re: Vibram Five Fingers
I have always worn Merrell's without issue. However, I bought another pair of Moabs back in october and the sole is now seperating from the shoe. I called EMS and they said that I could bring them in with the reciept and they would give me full purchase price toward a new pair of shoes of my choosing. The five fingers just looked so dang wierd I never wanted to try them. However, a good friend of mine had been wearing his for like 6 months and he loves them. So I am going to buy a pair of Treksports, we shall see...

**UPDATE**
Picked up a pair of Komodo Sport VFFs. So far so good. I was stuck between two sizes at first, and I learned to always go for the smaller fit. Having room in the VFFs are no bueno. Now that I exchanged them at EMS yesterday they fit like a glove

I wear a size 13 and they had a pair that fit me at EMS. I think they were a 42.
You have to measure your foot and check the Vibram size chart to see what size you need.

Re: Vibram Five Fingers
I have been struggling with the decision for a couple weeks now and while I know I am going to get a pair I just dont know which ones. Obviously the Komodos look and seem awesome, but my concern would be losing that bare foot feel and flexibility that is the appeal for me, but obviously want to comfort and protection needed for practical disc use.
Andy Harris wears his all the time for disc and highly recommends the KSOs. I think he has the treks but doesnt like the increased tred when throwing. I am also thinking of using for running which I just started so I dont know what is best either. The key for me is having enough structure to be comfortable and safe when hiking/disc but basic enough to have the awesome bare foot feel. Tough to answer I guess. Wendy I guess thats why you have six paris hahah.

Re: Vibram Five Fingers
I have a pair of the Trek Sports and i love them. I feel as though they are solid enough to protect my feet from mother nature, but i still get all the movement and flexibility from a VFF. I haven't disced in them yet because i'm letting my feet adjust to them, but sometime i will give it a go.
