CT is a barren wasteland of NEFA events

c'mon people....

in the MAss/southern VT/NH area there are like 20-25 NEFA points events. Connecticut? THREE. and one of those is West Thompson, which is basically Mass. All of them are done already.

Sad.

I know... 'do it yourself!' well never having been a TD I'm not about to jump in and start last minute. I just like to b!tch about it. It's really a drag to drive 2-3 hours when your competition rolls out of bed and basically walks to the course. Oh well.

Next year, 2012 Park City Open NEFA 2x points, Bridgeport CT... hell I might do it this year. Panthorn NEFA points. Tolland NEFA points. Cranbury NEFA points. Let's go people.

Matt, the best way to get your feet wet in the TD pool is an Ace Race.
One entry fee.
Eveyone gets the same player pack.
One payout.

I know it's not an answer to your NEFA event "bitch" but it'll get you a feel for what it takes to run an event.

there are less tournaments being run in general here in CT

2011 CT Tournaments (not including ice bowls)

Sherwood Island - PDGA C Tier, Nefa 2x
Cranbury - PDGA B tier
Wick - GHdgO - PDGA B tier, NEFA
WICK - ACT - non sanctioned
Panthorn - CTO - PDGA C tier
West Thompson - WTO - NEFA
Wave - PDGA C, NEFA (event cancelled)
Panthorn - GRWO - PDGA C, Nefa (event pending)
Panthorn - Ace Race - non sanctioned (McHale? Pending?)

that is only 9 tournaments, 1 cancelled, Two pending...that that is only 6 tournaments in CT for the whole year.

5 were PDGA Sanctioned
3 were NEFA

one of the problems is when a course hold multiple tournaments at it...only one nefa event per course

that is having to offer every division. The Cranbury Classic has not offered every division in the past two years, therefore can not hold a nefa i

if you look at the nefa vs pdga balance in MA it will be diff than CT

PDGA offers a little more TD freedom than Nefa does

i think that the right way to go about it, is to run more tournaments in CT. more tournaments will allow for more chances to make the nefa sanctioned.

Try commuting from Cape Cod....I feel your pain. With the exception of one course here on the Cape and one course on the entire south shore (borderland), its a journey to all others.

I'd love to hear bolton's reasoning behind claiming pdga has less restrictions than nefa events :)

and yes, tentative ace race @ thorn planned again for this year. Just haven't solidified the date & submitted to discraft

No CCow here but I'm guessing he's referring to the NEFA need to offer specific divisions, where as the PDGA allows TDs to "mix and match" (maybe only age-divisions, maybe no age-divisions, etc.).
Just a guess.

I wasn't involved when that rule went into place (since I'm pretty sure that's been a rule for as long as there's been a NEFA series) but you can see how that would cause problems if courses COULD host multiple NEFA events per year. Suddenly Dragan field locals are qualifying for the Finals because they played in a NEFA-sanctioned monthly event they had, when a player never had to travel more than 3 miles from their house? (Not picking on Dragan for any particular reason other than choosing a random course out of Maine, since people from southern new england ALREADY complain about those events being "too far away" and the Maine community seeming to be it's own "thing" up north). If courses could have multiple events that counted towards the Series, the entire spirit of the series would be diminished and there would be less reason for players to travel to other areas to play in other events to try and earn points.

Chris, Ace races are stooopid and they cost the TD $$. If you want to get into being a TD, keep it simple.

3 divisions, Men,Women,Geezers. All Cash!!NO player packs!!
(this eliminates the need for pre reg. Keep the cost low and the payouts deep)

Borrow a scoreport, you can use mine.

Get your best friend to help total cards at lunch.

Down load the current pay tables and put them in you pocket with the money.

When its done pay out according to the tables.

Keep doing the event and it will grow, and you will get better at it.

In Vermont we have the Green Mountain Point Series independent and in conjunction with Nefa Events. This allows for tourney's at smaller upcoming venues and for us to hold multiple events at our top courses. A local point Series might just be the answer you need to have more tourney and get more locals involved in the tourny scene.

I would like to have a another tournament at Tolland sometime.

I would really like to get a few people with me, to help plan this thing from the start. Then work it with me day of.

So far I've had 4 events there. Three of them the weather was pretty bad and that includes my one foray with a NEFA event. We had two feet of snow drop the night before that one. My luck with picking outdoor tournament dates has not been good.
Being a TD is a big job.

Not sure if you non-TD's realize but it takes hours of work, phone calls, labor, cash, entertainment, prizes, you name it, to pull off a good NEFA tournament. Plus the TD had better feel generous with their stuff, because players will suck it up then ask for more.

It's a big job !

oh i know how much of a big job being a td is...but i don;t regret any of it

being a TD for me was almost better than playing in a tournament.

i think that our courses can handle more than 1 tournament a year. not every tournament needs to be both nefa and pdga...you can have both separate and then have more tournaments

Matt, you have my support to run a NEFA, pdga, or ice bowl event at Bridgeport. 2012 will be the year for Park City to shine.

Panthorn's GETripped wideOPEN will make it's return this august. :D

CT is looking real good this season. cran, panthorn, park city, fairfield, the wave, west thompson, wickham, sherwood.....

need to get one in on Page and Tolland, and we'd be able to have a CTpoints series on every CT course.

either way this summer is stacking up nice.
