Larger TEAM rosters?
I heard a rumor that the rosters may be getting bigger by two people.
Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that disc getting bigger?". Then it hits me.

Likely B pool only. No changes in A pool. From what I've heard.

It would be interesting that if your team moved up, you would have to drop two teammates, if that is the case.

Its not true. We are actually eliminating 5 spots on every roster. Also there will only be 2 teams per state, and only pros may play.

If there was a bigger team roster, but the same minimum amount of players needed for a challenge, wouldn't this make it easier for the teams that have a tough time?
I believe that TullyRock had to sit people every single round so far, so enthusiasum wasn't an issue for us.

Whats the minimum? Raise it.
Traveling with 14 guys to only have 6 play is super dumb and annoying.

Roster size should stay the same, it's at a fair number now. Didn't we go up on #'s last yr?
This is the worst part of team challenge imo. Sitting your friends and team mates that are a part of the team because the other group of slackers couldn't bring a full team.
IMO if the roster number is 16 the min number required should be 13. Anything less than 13 and there should be a penalty of -1 pt for every person less than 13.....or something along those lines. It's an ADVANTAGE to the team bringing less people, this shouldn't be the case. There needs to be some kind of penalty.
(insert arguement that people work, have swing shifts, families etc....) That's whay there is the 3 person gap between the min required and the max roster size....to account for this.
And........I say the same thing every yr at this time.

And most of us laugh and disagree with you every year Mullen. People make this out to be life or death and its not. So what if someone doesnt get to play. How do you think Scallibrini feels sitting on the bench all the time?

It's fun though isn't it. We can agree to disagree. Or maybe meet in the middle somewhere. I don't think it's life or death, it's not like that, stuff comes up that you just can't control sometimes (why there would be a 3 persion "cussion", in case an emergency came up). Part of being on a team is being at the game when your team plays. It's a commitment, and players that can't deal wtih that shouldn't be on the team. If you know you are going to have work and familily issues all yr. You shouldn't be playing.
Baseball teams don't show up to play without a ss then tell the other team sorry, your ss needs to sit cuzz we didn't bring one. (sorry comparison to another sport......disc golf isn't like other sports).

It is fun and we can certainly agree to disagree. It is really a matter of priorities. You may see someday when your priorities change. I for one really enjoy the team challenge and have managed to keep it as a priority even though I retired from tournament golf. The problem is that it is a low priority in the scheme of things. My team knows that I likely won't make all 5 matches. Should they kick me off the team? There are others on my team in the same boat. Kick them off too? Why don't we just get rid of our team completely? Would the league be better then?

Re: Larger TEAM rosters?
Shawn, it is my hope that teams will be allowed to have more players so they can all bring 16 people to play. We arent gonna raise the number of people at a challenge. That would be defeating the purpose of the change. Some teams (b pool) can't seem to get enough people together to play 16 v 16. Hopefully this will give them more options. Other teams have players that cant make every match and they need to be subbed for a challenge. This would allow us to move another person in their spot without the dreaded roster move.
This is a B pool thing I think. I do not get involved in A pool discussions.
And, its still just an idea. Its being discussed. Some people oppose it. Some want it.

I don't know......I'm not the captain of your team. That's his call.
As a capt. of a team if I know someone will miss more than maybe one match in a winter, they probably wouldn't be on the team. I even kept Allen Smith on TT's roster for years knowing he might make maybe one match a winter....and never even did that. That was my way of not filling that roster spot knowing I would still have to sit people, even given 16 person rosters the other teams were allowed. I still had to sit people at almost every match.
It sucks for the team that has to play a match juggeling their players to accomodate the other teams work, or family schedule.
IMO 16 is 16 ( or 13 or even 12 there should be a cut and dry number....whatever it may be) don't bring that many and take the penalty for it. 8 players is only half of a team's roster. A rediculously low number, and right now if you can't bring 8.......you loose. I believe there was one forgeit last season. Up that min number to 13 or even 12. And put in a small penalty for bringing less. Teams would never have to forfeit should an emergency come up, or if someone gets called into work, or you can't convince your team to drive to maine to play in the snow. Your team just takes a small penalty and the match gets played. Plus it's an encouragement for teams to bring as many as possible.
There is my yearly $.02. I'll be back next yr this time w a similar post.

For those captains looking to establish rosters, such as myself, should I assume the rosters will be expanding or not? It seems like most of what is posted here is unconfirmed information. If it's a matter of consensus, I would vote to expand rosters.
