OK, here is the place for all things 2011 Finals.

You'll also notice that on the main forum listing that at the bottom you'll see last years' Finals threads. They should be read-only so that anyone can go back and reference how we ran things.

Double Points are calculated in the Points Series Standings as two Points events, but
no longer count as two Points events attended

The day is October 22, Saturday.
Player's meeting will be at 9:10 for a planned 9:30 start. That way we can finish with some daylight left. You must sign-in by 9:00 to keep your spot.
We are working on a unique player's package. So far we will have a custom disc, and mini disc, and a pumpkin.
The Tournament trophies are based on a "Granite State" theme -- so bring your trucks, they might be heavy.

Help us keep the entry fee low or even free by being a sponsor!

Lunch will be by Lisa! Homemade soups, stews with homemade rolls. I am sure there will be coffee/tea in the morning and a Lisa snack.
There will be a person giving neck/shoulder massages for a reasonable fee.
I have been working all summer and have finished upgrading all the Blue tees to brick.
Free camping will be available!
Our Disk Store run by Justin Anderson will be open. "Funny money" awards will be for his discs, either purchased there or you can do later on the web.
As more is done, I will update this thread.

My thanks to Andrew McManus for working on sponsorships!
At this point in time, registration fee, if needed, will be paid when you sign in at the course. This saves on "processing fees".
We will either have a campfire or a bonfire. (Maybe a good place for those unreliable discs that just cost you the tournament?!)

In past years there has been a running roster of who's planning on attending this. I have not seen anything like that this year. Is the plan just to show up if you qualified and want to play?

AM-2 looks friendly in terms of getting invites to finals right?

i looked at last year's thread and there were over 25 invited?
that's about how many qualify so far-

Last year we had 38 were qualified in Am2 and of that, 18 invited. But since there's always so many dropouts in different divisions we ended up with a field of 22. Monday morning the numbers game will start and we'll post up how many from each division will get invites as soon as we all come to a happy set of numbers.

Jeff,
I wont be able to make it so there is no need to formally invite me. So offer my spot to someone who might be able to use it.

Kinda bites Whitey I agree but it was a decision made by the TD.

Unfortunately there's nothing in the charter against that so they are within their rights to keep it at 72 although we did ask them to reconsider. The charter will be edited next year to change that to 90 I hope but for now our hands are tied.

I'm not a big proponent of "finals" * and won't be there this year either (actually, have NEVER attended finals :( ) but having 4-somes DOES make sense - especially due to the lighting issue this time of year (unless people are willing to start the day's play at like 8am sharp like they do sometimes in Europe tournaments). Also, 5-somes (whether they are prevalent or not) just suck. Slows down the pace stupid slow. IFFFFFF, you have to have finals perhaps limit it to a "harder-to-qualify standard", then 4-somes would be the max.
If it's a "NEFA party, everyone's invited", fine - that's one thing. If it's some sort of tournament to 'separate any close battles' and help define who truly is "top dog" - that's something totally diffferent.
Yeh, I know, blasphemy. Sorry. But just my opinion.

Karl

*Your success during the entire year should place you where you end up; if you're good enough to "win" during the WHOLE YEAR, someone getting hot one day shouldn't be able to steal your thunder.

There is no best way to get stuff done Andrew! Thats my point man! It doesnt matter if you yell and scream, whisper, quietly contemplate..it just doesnt matter. The guys that run this, not all of them mind you, but a good share of them..sit on their hands. There are volunteers for the org really doing the work and following through. But the dudes in charge....need to make way for someone willing to do the work. The old guard gets all up in arms anytime a mention is made by a member of something that needs to be fixed. take your medicine and deal with it..thats the message over and over. Its utterly ridiculous.

Hows getting that year old, brand new, NEFA logo up on the front page coming? Andrew, you appear to be a resonably intelligent dude with a good share of motivation. Do you think that finals, the points series, issue after issue, were handled to the best of this orgs. ability?

I choose having 72 players for the finals due to several reasons. It was not a spur of the moment issue, it is not a NEFA screw-up. In my judgement the course can best handle 72 players, not 90.
For what it is worth here are my reasons:
It gets dark early and I want to make sure that there is enough time to play. 5 somes take way longer. Play is faster and there is less waiting at tees. There is nothing nice about waiting in a cold rain, it spoils the event.
In case of bad weather, I have to make sure there is shelter for registration, lunch, awards. I know our barn will be quite full with 72 (plus helpers) 90 just would not fit.
The logistics for 72 people is way easier - parking, registration, lunch, etc. I am not a proponet of the more the merrier.

I really want to thank our NEFA President and the NEFA BOD for all their hard work they put into the Points Series and into the everyday logistics of NEFA. You folks roc!

As for the 72 vs 90 people at finals, I really like the 72 even though I didn't make the cut but am on the edge waiting for drop outs. Less waiting at tee boxes, tourney will finish during light hours, if it rains it can really slow thing down, etc... Pretty much what Blaze said. Sometimes less is better than more.

If finals are in RI next year what will a field of 90 be like at Ninigret?

I tell you its so sad 2 see this dribble on the board and its the #1 reason
why I stay away from this site now (and being busy with a new job). These

problem.

Thank you to all the NEFA BOD and the large group of contributors who give
there time and effort in dealing with this crap along with all the other great
things you do and have done for us - IN YOUR SPARE TIME

Rob, I sincerely hope you look past this garbage and continue to lead us in the
future as you have the respect of many people.

I just want to second this and re-emphasize my support of the Board and especially Rob!

It's time for the "vocal minority" to stand down and the vast majority "moderates" to speak up!

As for the decision Blaze has to make as the Finals TD, sounds like he is making good choices based on sound reasons. He knows the course and the reality of hosting a tourney there. Having been in his position last year I respect his decision and his willingness to stand by it.

My hat is off to you, Sir!

My observations:

1. The reason to have an organization like NEFA is so decisions can be made systematically about things like finals. It doesn't look like that was done so well this year.

2. I can't believe how many people spew hateful things while simultaneously blaming others for doing the same thing.

3. Great decision on making us all use our real names. It's really cleaned things up around here!
