Need help, Need an Overstable Driver

Post by Anthony Dembinski »

VERY Overstable. For into the wind and nasty dogleg lefts. Every discraft OS driver i looked at was impossible to find... MSt didnt have any of them. i think they have the predator though.

So help me out, what do you recommend?

I think what it sounds like you're looking for would be the Champ Firebird or Opto XXX...

The Predator works! Plain and simple. Real good for head winds and a hard hyzer. I throw them for Hammers too.

i can't imagine a scenario where a Predator isn't stable enough- unless its 10 years old and beat into a different shape.

i like the Trident from lat 64 too- it's not "other worldly" over stable, but it's definitely a hog, which won't do anything but go left. though their XXX is more over stable.

newer preds aren't as overstable as the older ones. fortunately, the older ones are still available floating around, just have to look for them. get them while the getting is good.

If you're looking primarily at Discraft, I love the Z Force. I'm kind of known amongst the AM2 crowd as a Lat 64 guy, but the Z Force has become my go-to overstable driver. I find the ESP plastic will beat in and start to flip on me, but the Z stays pretty consistent. Great for long overhands, too.

I'll also add my thumbs up for the XXX. It's primarily a slow "control" type driver, but it's pure pig and will never turn over. For longer drives, I also carry an Opto Blitz. Some people don't like the rim on it, but my tiny hands find it comfortable.

My last bit of advice - when I'm buying overstable drivers, I buy the heaviest weights I can find. At least 175, or heavier if I can find them.

I'm not sure what you mean by "discraft OS." MSt has the Nuke OS if that's what you're referring to, and they also have Predators. I use the Predator myself, but like Matt said the newer ones aren't as overstable. The XXX and Firebird are the only other two discs I would consider besides the two mentioned.

The Spirit and Z Xtreme are the two most overstable discs ever made, but they are so overstable they are basically useless, haha.

Overstable Discract discs. The ones i was looking at weren't available like the xtreme venom and talon. The Nuke is to high speed for me. I went with a Predator. Thanks for the tips.

depending on the run, some ESP Trackers were very overstable and have a smaller lip making them easier to throw more accuratly... also, ESP/Z Preds as people have mentioned, Z Force will also fly well in the wind and has a slightly smaller rim than the Nukes

A good move is to not even have a ridiculously stable disc in the bag. Instead you should always have a brand new favorite driver in the bag and just use it for those types of shots until it becomes broken in enough to add to your bomb driving arsenal.

I just took my Spirits out of my bag for this reason and added a couple new Excals and Destroyers instead.

The current run of Champion glow firebids are very overstable. To me they are absolute crap. Z-extreme overstable, almost. Star Max's are the bees knees, FIY. A really good overstable disc that you can rely on.

Maple Hill has some relic pred's.
All sorts of plastic and I'm sure there are old molds.
Z extreme is a meat-hook too.
