PYRAMIDS LEAGUE - Monday 5/19 - Gold **5:30pm START TIME**

Post by Andrew Streeter »

[/list]Monday March 24th is the first league night...

    J. Southwick (2011)
    Edited for 2012, 2013, 2014

The long winter is almost over and we’re celebrating by announcing the start of Pyramids Monday League, with an initial start time of 4:30 p.m. We envision playing Silvers for the first few weeks to make sure we finish before dark.

Format will be best disc doubles, with partners selected by random draw cards.

Andrew Streeter and Matt Sroka have once again graciously volunteered to run this popular league.

Cost is $6 for Pyramids members and $10 for non-members, with $5 going to the cash payout (roughly top 25 percent), and $1 to the Ace Pot, which at points, in consecutive years, has reached up to and over $300. Everyone is invited and welcome, and don’t feel you’re not good enough cause we’re not either.

If last year was any indication, league night will be followed by camp fires and DDC under lights.

    Best. League.

What do you guys think about clarifying that any "odd person out" should flip again with the other odd people in stead of racing to find the "best" of the odds. Kind of a slap in the face when someone comes up and asks who's the odd person in your group and when they find out who it is they walk away to find someone better.. Just saying.

Be my partner. You'll get an ace.

Flippin is so dumb, especially when there are 40 to 50 people.

No one knows what hole to begin on, people finish in the darkness because everyone started on hole 1, and people avoid having Jenni as their partner.

Love the league, but organization could be better.

Pick a hole 1 - 18, hit you putts so you don't finish in the dark, and keep avoiding Jenni as your partner, that's how I get it done Yak!

I love the league but also wish we didn't flip. It's such a well attended league and you just know that there is some dishonesty going on in the flipping process. To allow to opportunity for this to happen at such a great league seems like a bad idea to me. I know it's unique to the league but flipping in a circle of 40 is much different than flipping up an 8some for partners.

I understand everyone and everything about the flipping, last year I tried to remove it.

Anyone up for trying to get it changed, you know who you need to go through and it's not me.

I'll tell you this, if it was changed what would it change to?

If cards is the answer, we better find someone to organize it, as I am all set with adding that to the plate!

Flipping is fine. Two years I've been a part of that (maybe thee I can't remember). Ya I'm sure there is "cheating" but I like to beat cheaters. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the cheaters rarely win. Maybe I'm giving to much credit to those winning but when I think about those who have won leagues over the years I see classy disc golfers (well maybe not "classy" but I don't think of them as cheaters). Anyways, like I said, beat em! (not physically). AND if YOU don't cheat then how can they? It has to be a two person cheating scam going on to cheat in disc flipping right? Maybe not, but still, just beat the cheaters. It's not the "good" golfers cheating anyways is it? Ha

Another thought about starting holes. Count how many players you have and mark cards 1-however many cards you will need to hold all players. 12 people at league would be 3 cards of 4 people. Mark cards 1, 2, 3 and then when people grab score cards that's the hole they go too. It would take literally a minute to do after everyone is signed up/paid. 60 players would be 15 cards labelled 1-15 and groups just grab cards randomly or in order until they are gone. That would be a way to assign a hole atleast.

Love this league. Thanks Streeter for running it. Any help you need let me know. I could print up some more scoring sheets again. Let me know.

Love this conversation and lets see what Jason says about this theory.

Flipping promotes jocks to play with jocks. "Hey best friend, I would like to play in your group, is that cool?" "Heck yeah it is!"

Cards that already have holes numbered on them such as 2 red 4's and 2 black 4's is so simple and yet so intelligent. Everyone who gets a 4 starts on hole 4 and often promotes playing with people you never would have. It also avoids the 3 groups on hole 1 and allows all groups to finish at a reasonable time. Totally brilliant!

Choosing your own groups only segregates newbies from getting to meet studs.

Flipping is cool, like the Book said, when there are say less than 20 people at a league.
What will the master say about this? Find out, stay tuned!

Has anyone actually caught anyone cheating this way? I felt like everytime i came to that league last year at least someone complained about that and yet i really tried to pay attention to others to see if people were actually doing this and i saw nothing.

I think part of the problem is that it is really easy to get away with cheating w/o being caught using this method.

If you have to cheat at disc golf you are one pretty pathetic individual. I don't care who I get paired up with. I am going to have fun regardless.

Ive gone maybe 7-8 weeks and i've been paired with a girl 3 times and OD 3 times somehow but i'm not that great at disc golf so i don think hes going out his way for me haha. Im just wondering if anyone has actually been caught or is it just paranoia, cards is obviously a superior system but i have faith in humanity to not cheat even though i shouldn't.
