Recently I have been giving deep thought to Dg courses in every aspect
What I am trying to get for information is a rough ratio of course areas/location by this I mean is the course on public or private land, then is the course on city/town property, state property,Federal, and then private
who has authority over the land would be the final determination of where course is located IMO
I will start with MA as it is most relevant to me and will give a great variation in ratios
MA
Public
Private
City/Town
State
FEDS
Private
potentially be broken down to school, church other maybe
Then I would like to eventually "rate" these courses based on a few factors from a few sources.
To better determine "where" DG courses best fit so future plans in DG course construction can lean towards the best properties suited for DG. Also will help determine better where to "pitch" DG courses as former sources have shown interest, success.
I would also then like to get recommendations from courses in similar categories so they can be used as tools in future "pitches" for DG courses
This a work in progress(may take 3 years who knows) and just wanna start getting stuff org'ed

Re: Public or Private City/Town,State,Feds,Private?
First I would like to discuss DG and Colleges private & public-state/comm
In an interesting meeting today at Greenfield Community College with fellow RT2DGC member and longterm..lol student Billmer..so items were discussed
dg club on campus..apparently there is quite the rules/process for forming a club at a college..things I had no idea about.
insurance if course is open to public vs just faculty and students/alumni..very interesting discuss rather complex
aesthetics and impact to area DG would have on the appearance of said area...to me if the right land is used this could be countered to DG advantage with right design and finishing touches,(landscaped green, nice tee areas)..not to mention overall cleaning of land
funding off campus for on campus projects..there are some obstacles as this particular college wants all money ran through there ADMIN...I think this may be the case for most nowadays IDK
safety..if design and correct land is used I see this not being an issue and should NEVER BE on public land or anywhere really..not good for sport..so I see no issues with this honestly..sometimes the land just won't allow a full 18 safely or even 9...hey move on
redtape..seems even if ya will PAY for it..and do it..the red tape and talk to him then her then back to him...blah blah...grrrrr just let me put this DG course in and zip it...LOL
discuss..and PLEASE post any courses at colleges...list private/public..state.comm please
discuss any just general DG adventures to colleges..

Re: Public or Private City/Town,State,Feds,Private?
Back and forth, back and forth, this committee, that group, this office, that office, sometimes seems like I'm going in circles and getting nowhere. Between not getting responses from some town officials to seeing lots of interest from groups and folks that can't really help me, it's a maze of silliness sometimes.
Making progress in Framingham but slowly, looking at several different properties and considering looking for people with large old farms to approach in town ( if there are any left) so as not to have to deal with the process of town politics and BS.
I know BS goes hand in hand with politics but it's a little crazy. keep up with the good fight Titan, and get a course or two going if you can, I can only concentrate on one at a time, that's plenty for me
I'm curious what you're finding in terms of insurance/legal issues for disc golf courses on public vs. private.

The reason for multi courses at the same time is they all have there own obstacles that at some points render the project to a stop...
If I had put all the eggs in Gardner..well we would still be staring at a map until the forest cut happened
If I had put em all at Holtshire road..woulda been starring at PI until the fall and no $$ for baskets
If I had went full steam in Keene we woulda been still waiting for rangers..starring at a map again
Went full steam with the royalston F&G guys some above courses woulda never moved forward to the point they even are now
so it allows some time to shift focus to the place that is in a crucial stage...during down time gives ya valuable time to scout land at "dead" projects to provide a better design and over all use of land...stuff takes months sometimes..almost even good in NE to see these pieces of land in all season before final choices are made
yeah sometimes to much starts to happen..but plenty of cool people always come through in the clutch to make things happen..and if they don't then ya can only expect so much..no need to stress..I just rest assured that when the time and energy is there the projects will get done...we are after all volunteers...
The pain in the arse that drains the most energy IMO is all the PTB's and emails/discussions..oh an PI that crap kills me
when I seen guy lyman spray 2 huge jugs at Holtshire road and it laughed in his face and barely phased it I said well this place is on hold till fall..rip some of the main stalks out over the fall and winter and try to get right on it this spring before it gets outta control..although overall I have heard it is just redick every where this year
it is cool when places wanna do the work gardner/acoe and don't need DG'ers for the "bull" work just takes a lil longer...for there time schedule rather volunteers that go nuts
be great if that was the continued theme..DG'ers help with design/maintenance and the park/rec/landowners to do the major cut..allows time for more areas to be approached as your not out there stuck at one course..it seems the same people who get the "green lights" are also the ones doing work on course(s)
in regards to insurance...kinda strange they are all different
some public..play at own risk..some not..some places already have insurance that blankets DG and some require a new insurance policy just for DG
some seem interested in covering the insurance..some seem to want DG'ers to cover the fee
most private all require/desire insurance and seems to be about $500 bucks on average from what I have heard

Excellent post T, and it contains a lot more shreads of wisdom than a lot of people give you credit for having. 'Tis true that sometimes you have to throw a LOT of mud against a wall for some of it to stick (in a good way). Product development in the Rx industry is this way - expensive (in resources) but it does yield a few nuggets of gold every now and then. And as for you having all this time to divest toward numerous projects, I'm jealous - but will never try to stop a bulldozer from dozing...as long as it's dozing in the right direction!
