LOWER HUDSON DISC GOLF CLUB. FDR / KISCO

Post by Angelo Mascia »

**IMPORTANT** Fee information / bag tag information is preliminary and still being worked on. No fees will be collected yet.

Alright we have a green light and will be moving forward starting today!

I will start with my 3 biggest objectives I wish to achieve by starting this club.

1) Bring a sense of unity between all the random player's on these courses. I personally have met 25-30 people while playing FDR / Kisco that have no idea about NEFA, doubles tee times, or anything involving the courses. I hope by bringing everyone together we can generate a larger interest throughout the communities.

2) Bring the much needed money back into the courses for maintenance and upkeep.

3) Organize bag tags to be easily accessible and viewable by anyone who's interested. Going back to creating a larger unified group, I hope to have much more people involved in tags.

We have decided to assess a member fee of 20$ for a year long membership. Membership will include a small entry gift (to be decided). We are thinking of having that include a base membership fee which will provide members with a 5$ entry fee to local tournaments. Hopefully with greater interest we will be having a greater number of tournaments than the 3/year we have now. I will be more than willing to volunteer my time to help that happen.

Bag tags: We are working with the idea of increasing the base membership to 25$ which will include bag tags with proper updated stats and tracking per week. I hope to hold a monthly/bimonthly bag tag event alternating between the two courses. The extra 5$ will go toward a pot which will be distributed at the end of the season (either through swag or cash). My hopes are to keep bag tags mostly casual, but allowing greater access to them for the local discin' community.

Since there are fees involved, you have the right to know where the money goes. Again keep in mind the numbers and specific details are being worked on. Part of the money will go to covering the small gift cost for membership. The rest of the money will be split evenly and put into each respective course (sign upgrades, much needed teepads at kisco etc).

I will be purchasing the domain name: Lowhuddiscgolf.com and starting a facebook group / dgscene club which I will update with links when they're made. I'm hoping this can be up and going fully within a month's time. Please post interest, criticisms, concerns here. This is a big thing for lower new york!

Westchester DGC would be a bit more specific considering that the Lower Hudson Valley also includes the other side of the river. More accurate too considering that Mount Kisco isn't in the Hudson Valley.

No reason the coverage area and the name has to be that specific. Hunter Mountain is an hour+ south of Albany(capital area) but still a part of DisCap.

Did you contact the folks at Beacon Glades? Heard some nice things about this new course, I was hoping to get down there soon to check it out.

This will be the closest disc golf club to NYC right? I like calling it Westchester DGC so that city people recognize immediately that there are courses very close by.

Nice work Angelo!

It will be the closest to my knowledge. I am able to refund the domain up until tomorrow. I will have to redo the dgscene / fbook. If everyone else likes Westchester DGC i'll do it.

We did exactly what you guys are doing right now to come up with our name. We started with a few ideas then came capital region disc golfers then we flip flopped it to Disc golfers of the Capital region. And shorten it up. Viola DisCap! Thanks for the props on the cool name. :)

You made the image jeff?
My only thing with the chain gang part is that it doesn't really relay disc golf to the people who don't know anything about dg.

I like where all this is going.. I actually live in Rockland and the closest course to me is Camp Gaw.. who takes care of that? skylands seems to focus on warwick and buzzy's - I guess since that's Jersey it would be out of the jurisdiction of this club anyway..

If you expand to lower hudson valley, maybe you could get a course in rockland somewhere..?

Rockland/Westchester group - lower hudson.. put in a course in Rockland somewhere would make three in total.. seems like a reasonable number to maintain? I'd love to help get something going over here..

Yeah, Campgaw is a Skylands course.
