Thanks for the suggestion regarding Access. My knowledge of it is "limited at best" but I think the .xls will suffice. It can be sorted BUT the key to the whole thing is having a "list" which matches - in the exact same order - the actual discs.
I put in alphabetical order all the discs and THEN make up a list in that same order. This is the only way I could then "find" (among the hundreds of discs) any ONE disc.

Ps: It'll be a kicker come spring when I start adding newly found discs to the myriad I already have!

Pps: And no Epics in the whole bunch (remember, they float...and the discs I have are ONLY the ones I've found "at the bottom")! One of the "detriments" of the L&F thing...I NEVER find any of my own discs!!

OK, the big job is done.

I've alphabetized all the Buffumville "found at the bottom" L&F discs. These are $2 each. I've also made a jagounda Excel spreadsheet (1 line item per disc) with the following information - if it was on the disc.

name (first, last, nickname, initials, etc.)
email address
area code
phone number
disc plastic
disc model

There are 463 discs. I've isolated 27 of them (of people I pretty much know I'll run into soon) and will have them this weekend. I'll TRY (no promises though) to stop off at the WTL IB and Page Park's Sun mtg.

I will post this list here (on the NEFA MB) if someone will tell me how a .xls sheet can "conveniently" - and not taking up TOO much bandwidth - be listed here.

I will print out AND POST this list at the Buffumville kiosk by the end of March (maybe sooner).

At any time, you can PM / email me and tell me you DON'T want to pay the $2 for the disc. I will then take that disc "off the list".

But first, I need some feedback - and help - as how to "pull this off" (without making too many people mad).

My concerns:

1) When you lose a disc (and have contact information on said disc) you're expecting 1 person, the finder, to a) read / know that info and b) contact you. This is a LITTLE different than having your name / phone number / email address POSTED for everyone / anyone to see. Yes? No? Am I just being too nice about "guarding" people's contact info?

2) Say someone contacts me and / or I meet someone to "get them their disc back" and they say - after, of course, reading the list - that they'll pay the $2 for "their friend's disc". I don't know them and I don't know that they're friends with said person. Do I allow them to "get their 'friend's' disc". Remember, the disc type IS listed...and theoretically, anyone who "wants" a certain type of disc can "pick it up for my buddy" whether or not they know them.


Again, I want your thoughts about my concerns. I've got a couple of months to "figure out the best way of doing this" and won't start unless I've got some ideas / support from all of you.

1. By writing your info on a disc and then losing it, you're basically "publishing" said contact info anyways.

2. This one is a bit tougher............ if you go the "give me proof of said friendship" route and you may piss off a few people. But you also risk the "you gave it to WHO?" response when someone comes looking for a disc that was given to a phony friend.

Why don't you just copy the column of names and post that? Keep the rest of the spreadsheet data private.

That way three things are accomplished.

1) private contact info kept private
2) bandwidth/xls posting issue solved
3) "friend's disc" situation controlled

regarding "friend's discs" - how bout they have to describe the lost disc? most players are aware of which of their discs went underwater, I'd guess. maybe have the "friend" initial the list too, to indicate who took it.

My opinion is this, whatever contact information is on the disc that's what the owner wants as the contact point, email, phone, address, etc...etc...Protecting information that the owner put on the disc, is not really your concern as the owner put it there. So they are ok with it being available to all.

As for people getting friends discs a way to prevent someone from getting a friends disc or just stealing any disc is posting only the area code and first three numbers on the phone number (860) 748-XXXX, or just the name of the email and not the @charter.net, @cox.net, @comcast.net, etc..etc. That way you can check it against the list by asking the person as a way of verifying that it's in fact their disc. If you put all the information people can just say yeah this my disc, here is my number which they got off the sheet.

If they can't verify the info, then no disc. And I say really don't let friends take others discs unless you know that the person personally knows them. That's just my .02 cents.

Hope more people chime in for you. You happen to find a Yellow Star Destroyer with my name on it? Tim Griskus and my phone. Let me know I'll verify the number.

I would say post just the names. Its pretty obvious. Also, if someone says that they are picking up a disc for a friend, chances are they are telling the truth.

I would post the name, and color of disc.

Don't put phone number , just name , color of the disc and disc model:

I agree with some of the ideas here. When I put my name and number on the back of my discs I know disc golfers are going to find them. The information is there for the nicer people to return the disc. Here online anyone can access information posted. I would keep at least the phone number/contact info private and use that as the clincher for ownership.

Did you happen to find a blue ace or any discs with Gilbert or Choquette on them?

Karl - You could publish the spreadsheet on docs.google.com and then post the link, hence avoiding any bandwidth consumption on NEFA. Just an idea.

Hey all. I am a local noob, wondering whether all the Pool Store lost and found discs are in one place, or are only the "water discs" going on this list?

About a month ago I got a text message that someone was going to drop off my lost Stalker at the pool store. I lost it (on dry land) at Hodges.

I posted instead of sending a PM, because I imagine others are wondering about non-water discs from the pool store L&F.

Thanks for any info.

Everything went to Karl or to the local Boy Scouts. The store hasn't been open since Christmas,so I doubt the disc made it there anyway.

The only discs I have are the ones which I found in the water (there are about 460 +/- the ones I've gotten back to people). I'm assuming (Steve, correct me if I'm wrong) that any other discs (previously in the pool store's L&F) were donated to the Boy Scouts.

In a few weeks, I'll be both posting the list here on the NEFA site and on the Buff kiosk board. At that time you'll be able to see if you have a disc in the water-found L&F.

i lost it in the pines bewtewwn 18 and 1. nobody had found it as of the end of the tourney. so i'm just putting it out there.

Maple Hill's system has always been reliable for me. They just list the color of the disc, so scumbag disc thieves can't go shopping in the lost and found. I try to get as many of my friend's discs back to them to help reduce the number of discs in the lost and found. Personal info should include whatever the person chose to provide on their disc.

Lost Star Boss Red on Hole 16 , initials MV on it and name inside rim. Also blue Katana in the gorge on 26 it has name and black stencil of Kanji's on the top.

Friday (3/5/10) I posted the entire list (of names / area codes) of water-found discs on the Buff bulletin board near the practice basket (hole 3, etc.). I'll try to find a convenient way to also post the list here on the internet (Buff site, NEFA site, ??) but please check the kiosk posting now - as it is the only list posted presently.

Please check (ALL the different ways you might have ID'd your discs) and also check for your "friends"...and let them know the list is there to view (as they may not always go there, etc.).

I'll be there with all the discs this coming Sat (3/13/10) from 10am until noon.

I'll post then the other dates / times when I'll be there in the weeks to come.

With all the water that is there now, it's 156 feet in the water. 16's basket is totally submerged, and you can bairly see the little trees that sit behind 17's tee box. The water level is at 21 1/2 feet as of today, another 2 - 3 feet more and you would not be able to walk over to the back.
